During the Easter holiday my husband and I did a road trip through Scotland partly to take a bit of a break from the polluted city air but mostly to get some new inspiration and ideas for my photography. And what a reward! The landscape was like nothing I have ever seen before with an amazing array of brown and greens. We were lucky to still have some snow on the mountains which rounded it all off. Places that really stood out were Glen Affric an enchanting moss covered forest and Glen Coe that has impressive mountains and streams with beautiful multi coloured stones. Actually thinking back there were so many things that were breathtaking like this rock pool that was taken at Elie on the East coast near St Andrews.
A big bonus was our visit to the Isle of Skye which is populated with artist. We visited quite a few galleries of which my favourites were:
- Woodrising Gallery that has environmental photographs by Alan Campbell; see www.woodrising-photography.co.uk
- Phil Gorton Studio that had very creative and colourful abstract photographs; see www.philgortonstudio.demon.co.uk
- Dun Studio where you visit the studio of John Bathgate whose work include contemporary paintings and collages; see www.dunstudio.com
I took over 700 photographs during the whole trip and am preparing a gallery for my website at the moment. Here you will be able to view and buy prints with you your paypal account. So keep a look out!
On Saturday 13 May Elna did a course in Studio Lighting at Photofusion's Studio in Brixton, London.
The course took participants through the fundamentals of high-key and low-key lighting set-ups, how lights work in a dialogue to the key light, how to evenly light a background and how to over or under expose it, how to add a fill-light and then an effect light. Everything was taught with studio flash.
The course was quite intensive, with a model for the morning and another in the afternoon. The day ended with participants having to correctly complete a lighting assignment.
